SustainGov Symposium on Innovation in Public Administration
On 22 October 2024, SustainGov arranged a symposium at Södertörn University under the title "Innovation in public administration – what do we know, can we, do we want?". The event brought together researchers, policymakers and practitioners to discuss the role of innovation in public administration.
Gustav Amberg, Vice-Chancellor of Södertörn University, began the day by emphasising the importance of educating future innovators. Mariell Juhlin, Programme Manager for SustainGov, followed up by describing SustainGov's role in the proactive work for the sustainability transition.
Among the other speakers during the day was Professor Anders Ivarsson Westerberg, who presented current research on innovation in the public sector, while Johan Quist and others highlighted the importance of reforms at all levels in the public sector.
Representatives from SALAR, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and non-profit associations shared examples of successful innovations and the participants at the symposium also listened to a panel discussion on public administration's biggest challenges.
The symposium ended with mingling where the participants had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas.
